Launch the Outlook mail app (web version), and sign in with your account credentials.<\/p>\n<p>2. After you\u2019ve understood what it is, you can come back here to learn how to set it up.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3>Why Should You Use the SMTP Client Method?<\/h3>\n<p>Because it\u2019s the best method to use!<\/p>\n<p><b>Here\u2019s why you shouldn\u2019t use the direct send <\/b><b>method<\/b><b> or dedicated relay method:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Direct send only supports communication<b> within<\/b> your organization. As a result, you can\u2019t use it to communicate with people outside your business.<\/li>\n<li>If your company uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/searchcio.techtarget.com\/definition\/LOB\">line-of-business (LOB)<\/a> tool, you need a static IP address to authenticate the Outlook mail app with the relay server method.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>And here\u2019s why you should use the SMTP <\/b><b>client<\/b><b> submission method:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Unlike direct send, the SMTP authentication (SMTP AUTH) submission method lets you email anyone with a full email address <b>inside or outside<\/b> your organization.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, you don\u2019t need to worry about having a static IP address for your LOB app with SMTP authentication<\/p>\n<h3>How to Set Up the SMTP Server in Outlook<\/h3>\n<p>1. Set Up Your Own SMTP Account<\/h4>\n<p>If you feel like you need your own SMTP account, or if your emails don\u2019t fit the criteria above \u2014 don\u2019t worry!<\/p>\n<p>You can easily set up your own SMTP account with third-party providers like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/sendgrid-smtp-account-configuration\/\">SendGrid<\/a>. Setting Up Your SMTP Account<\/h3>\n<p>Here\u2019s how GMass connects to SMTP servers:<\/p>\n<h4>Step 1<\/h4>\n<p>GMass connects to your server without TLS\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ciocentral\/2018\/03\/20\/dont-get-blindsided-by-ssl\/\">SSL<\/a>. You can decide on the port number \u2014 most SMTP service providers will allow you to connect to port number 25 or 2525.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Note:<\/i><\/b><i> Ensure your <\/i><i>internet service provider<\/i><i> hasn\u2019t blocked the port number.<\/i><\/p>\n<h4>Step 2<\/h4>\n<p>Ensure the \u201ctrack email opens and clicks\u201d option is<b> turned off<\/b>. This is required because GMass <b>does all the email tracking for you<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Ensure that the outgoing mail server (SMTP) doesn\u2019t alter the emails in any way but just lets them pass through.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 3<\/h4>\n<p>Look for any email send quota restrictions in your SMTP account setup. If there are any, ensure that you remove them or that they don\u2019t limit your general or cold email campaigns.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 4<\/h4>\n<p>In this step, you\u2019ll have to check which <b>RETURN-PATH <\/b>address your server is using. This address is also called a <b>MAIL-FROM<\/b> address or an <b>Envelope Form<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on your SMTP provider, you\u2019ll have to verify your domain name \u2014 because the same domain name is used in the MAIL-FROM address and the \u201cfrom\u201d address.<\/p>\n<p>This may require you to alter your DMARC, DKIM, and SPF records.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 5<\/h4>\n<p>Make sure you turn on <b>Bounce notifications<\/b>. Don\u2019t forget to set your bounce notifications to go to the <b>\u201cFrom\u201d address<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>This helps GMass to process the email bounces and show them to you when required.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Setting Up GMass to Send Emails through the SMTP Server<\/h3>\n<p>This is the last stage in configuring GMass with an external server.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how you can do it:<\/p>\n<h4>Step 1<\/h4>\n<p>Reload Gmail to make sure you have the latest GMass version. Install the <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/gmass-powerful-mail-merge\/ehomdgjhgmbidokdgicgmdiedadncbgf\">Chrome extension<\/a> if you don\u2019t have GMass already. Then, click on the <b>Compose<\/b> window.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 2<\/h4>\n<p>Insert smtp@gmass.co as the \u201c<b>To<\/b>\u201d field of the new email message.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 3<\/h4>\n<p>Insert the word \u201c<b>set<\/b>\u201d as the <b>subject<\/b> and wait for this form to load in the message area.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 4<\/h4>\n<p>Enter the relevant details after the colons. If your SMTP server requires no authentication, set the User name to \u201c<b>noauth<\/b>\u201d and leave the password field blank.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 5<\/h4>\n<p>Click the <b>GMass<\/b> button.<\/p>\n<p>After you complete these steps, GMass will try to send a test message to your inbox.
