ActiveCampaign &#8211; A Higher-End Option for Enterprise<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#mailchimp-alternativ-hgxz\">Mailchimp Alternatives: Conclusions and Next Steps<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Top 4 Complaints and Problems With Mailchimp<\/h2>\n<p>Based on my hands-on experience as well as a deep analysis of comments and reviews on Reddit, G2, and Capterra, here are the <strong>four biggest issues people have with Mailchimp<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 and likely one (or more) of the reasons why <em>you\u2019re<\/em>\u00a0here looking for alternatives.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"the-price-starts-low-euyk\">The price starts low\u2026 then skyrockets when you have <em>any<\/em>\u00a0volume of contacts or emails<\/h3>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/mailchimpalt-pricing.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/mailchimpalt-pricing.png\" alt=\"Mailchimp's pricing\" width=\"1999\" height=\"904\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>When you\u2019re just starting out and your list is small, Mailchimp is pretty cheap.<\/p>\n<p>Their Essentials plan (which they completely bury, and don\u2019t even include on their pricing page) is 500 contacts and 5,000 emails a month for $13. That feels nice and reasonable, and gets a lot of folks in the door.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>as you start growing your list or wanting to send more emails (or both) \u2014 the cost skyrockets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not being hyperbolic. Skyrockets is the only word to describe it. (And the skyrocketing has gotten even more skyrocket-y since Mailchimp was acquired.)<\/p>\n<p>When you jump to a mere 1,500 contacts and 15,000 emails \u2014 both pretty low numbers \u2014 the price jumps to $26.50\/month. At 5,000 contacts and 50,000 emails, you\u2019re at $75\/month.<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>that\u2019s just for their lowest level plan<\/strong>\u00a0that\u2019s stripped of a ton of features. (For instance, it has limited analytics, doesn\u2019t include their segmentation features, doesn\u2019t allow custom templates, doesn\u2019t allow multi-step automations, and that\u2019s just scratching the surface.)<\/p>\n<p>The Standard and Premium plans jack up the prices even higher as you start to unlock all those features you saw promoted when you first signed up.<\/p>\n<p>I talk to people <em>weekly<\/em>\u00a0(if not almost daily) who are looking to switch away from Mailchimp because of the prices.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"surprisingly-limited-folk\">Surprisingly limited functionality (especially around automation)<\/h3>\n<p>Considering its pricing and its positioning in the email world, <strong>Mailchimp is still surprisingly limited on a lot of fairly standard functions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The most common complaints I hear are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Limited types of automations<\/li>\n<li>Automations that are difficult to build, clunky, and unreliable<\/li>\n<li>Poor segmentation abilities<\/li>\n<li>Unreliable and confusing reporting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And beyond that, <strong>Mailchimp doesn\u2019t allow for cold outreach and doesn\u2019t work for mail merge campaigns<\/strong>\u00a0or other popular types of mass emails.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re doing outreach or need mail merge, then you have to pay for <em>another<\/em>\u00a0platform on top of Mailchimp.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"deliverability-issue-muoe\">Deliverability issues \u2014 and getting cut off over spam reports<\/h3>\n<p>Mailchimp sends your email through its own servers.<\/p>\n<p>Because of its size, there are <em>a lot<\/em>\u00a0of other people sharing those servers with you when you send through Mailchimp. <strong>Your sending reputation is, at least a little bit, affected by each and every one of those other Mailchimp users<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So even though Mailchimp does a pretty good job keeping up the deliverability of their servers \u2014 the complaints about customers\u2019 emails going to spam are <em>endless<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, as the biggest email marketing company (owned by an even bigger company, in Intuit), if you start having your campaigns go to spam or you start getting spam complaints, Mailchimp may just cut you off completely.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"poor-customer-suppor-shvi\">Poor customer support<\/h3>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/mailchimpalt-support.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/mailchimpalt-support.png\" alt=\"Mailchimp's support gets shaky reviews\" width=\"1999\" height=\"757\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Mailchimp has a huge support infrastructure. However\u2026 even with <em>all<\/em>\u00a0their support staff on hand, <strong>no one seems to be satisfied with the help they receive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I did not use Mailchimp\u2019s support when I tested the platform so I can\u2019t speak to this issue personally.<\/p>\n<p>But I can say from my observations, from studying their reviews, and from the emailers I speak with, the ratio of praise for their support to complaints about their support is wildly skewed toward complaints.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"1-gmass-best-mailchi-eete\">So which email platforms are a better fit?<\/h3>\n<p>Here are my <strong>recommendations for better fits<\/strong>\u00a0based on my hands-on experience with Mailchimp and several dozen of its competitors.<\/p>\n<h2>1. (I know this because I work with them to do it.)<\/p>\n<p>On the surface, GMass might seem like a surprise pick. It\u2019s not as similar to Mailchimp as some other email marketing software like ActiveCampaign or Brevo or the eCom-focused Klaviyo.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>GMass has some fundamentals that make it <\/strong><em><strong>extremely<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0attractive to many people leaving Mailchimp<\/strong>. Not everyone, as we\u2019ll get into with the other Mailchimp alternative options on this list. But many.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"gmass-gives-you-unli-nbmn\">GMass gives you unlimited emails with every plan (yes, really)<\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m not naive, you\u2019re not naive.<\/p>\n<p>Price is, and always will be, a huge factor in people\u2019s decision-making process.<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>the area where GMass completely blows Mailchimp out of the water is on price<\/strong>\u00a0(and value for the price).<\/p>\n<p>GMass\u2019s plans cost $25\/mo, $35\/mo, or $55\/mo (or even less if you pay annually). And with all three plans, you get <strong>unlimited everything<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/send-unlimited-emails-gmail-using-smtp\/\">Unlimited emails (here\u2019s how)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Unlimited contacts<\/li>\n<li>Unlimited campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Unlimited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/email-verification-service\/\">email verification<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Unlimited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/gmail-email-tracking-track-opens-clicks\/\">email tracking<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Unlimited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/multisend-distributed-campaigns\/\">sending domains<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the headline up there, I put \u201cyes, really\u201d because no one can believe it \u2014 especially not Mailchimp refugees who are used to seeing their costs balloon out of control the more they grow.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s true. <strong>A year of GMass is often cheaper than a month at Mailchimp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(What\u2019s the catch? There really isn\u2019t one, though I\u2019ll cover more below on what Mailchimp can do that GMass doesn\u2019t.)<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"better-easy-to-use-f-apof\">Better easy-to-use functionality and way more flexibility<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s far too easy to get lost in Mailchimp\u2019s complex automation building system, or their software that\u2019s jammed with a million features you don\u2019t need (and that uses terms you aren\u2019t quite sure about).<\/p>\n<p>GMass is so much simpler than that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GMass works <\/strong><em><strong>inside<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0Gmail<\/strong>, so sending campaigns isn\u2019t all that different from sending your regular email.<\/p>\n<p>You can create simple, plain-text <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/auto-follow-up-emails-until-reply\/\">auto follow-ups<\/a>\u00a0right in the settings box. Creating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/recurring-reminder-emails\/\">recurring automations<\/a>\u00a0is often a matter of one checkbox.<\/p>\n<p>And because GMass has a native integration with Google Sheets, you can create any type of automation or campaign you want, incorporating the right info for the right mailing list.<\/p>\n<p>Even beyond automations, GMass is just easier to use. There\u2019s one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/gmass-settings-box\/\">settings box<\/a>\u00a0that takes care of your entire campaign. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/ab-test\/\">A\/B testing<\/a>\u00a0is inline. Quick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/email-polls\/\">email polls<\/a>\u00a0take less than a minute to set up. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/new-feature-schedule-mass-emails\/\">Scheduling<\/a>\u00a0is intuitive.<\/p>\n<p>Everything\u2019s just a whole lot easier.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"gmass-has-all-the-fe-quqc\">GMass has all the features you need for cold outreach<\/h3>\n<p>As I mentioned earlier, Mailchimp is for email marketing only.<\/p>\n<p>GMass is a full-featured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/gmail-email-marketing\">email marketing platform<\/a>. It\u2019s usually quite fast, but not like Mailchimp\u2019s speed.
