Inside the\u00a0<code class=\"code-inline\">&lt;form&gt;<\/code>\u00a0HTML tag, add\u00a0<code class=\"code-inline\">id=myform<\/code>. And in the header of your page (or an external Javascript file), add this script. (This script uses Fetch, which is supported in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caniuse.com\/fetch\">all modern browsers<\/a>. Now we\u2019re going to cover a free third-party option via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tally.so\/\">Tally<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This method is <b>significantly easier than the Google Apps Script method<\/b>. You can build way more complex forms way easier and don\u2019t have to worry about HTML or CSS.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026 the trade-offs.<\/p>\n<p>Your form will have \u201cMade by Tally\u201d branding unless you pay for the premium version ($29\/mo or $290\/yr). You won\u2019t be able to add custom CSS on your form unless you upgrade. Your form will be hosted by an external third party. And we can\u2019t guarantee this is going to be free forever, so one day you may need to get a paid plan.<\/p>\n<p>Still, this is a <b>nice, comfy middle ground between the totally free Google Apps Script and the paid options<\/b>. Other features you might want to add to your form would be a checkbox for explicit opt-in and spam\/bot prevention. And if you can live with the \u201cMade with Tally\u201d branding and without some other features like custom CSS, you can use Tally for free. (Also, if you\u2019re obsessive about page speed, Tally\u00a0<i id=\"sheetmonkey\">is<\/i>\u00a0embedded from a third-party source, so it could have a small impact on page load speed.)<\/p>\n<h2>The (Cheapest) Paid Method to Submit a Web Form Directly to Google Sheets<\/h2>\n<p>There are several form building tools that offer a Google Sheets integration. All of these offer extremely limited free plans so you\u2019ll need a paid plan if you want to collect any realistic volume of subscribers. And you\u2019ll pay\u00a0<i>a lot<\/i>\u00a0for your subscriber volume. Two examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/paperform.co\/\">Paperform<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; $240\/yr or $480\/yr. The $240 plan only gets you 1,000 form submissions per month.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.typeform.com\/\">Typeform<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; $300\/yr for just 100 responses per month; $600\/yr for 1,000 responses per month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unless you have a large budget to blow,\u00a0<b>these paid options don\u2019t make sense if you\u2019re only making an email signup form<\/b>. (If you\u2019re using other forms on your site and need complex form building options, they become more viable.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sheetmonkey.io\/\">Sheet Monkey<\/a>\u00a0is not a form builder, but it is a\u00a0<b>third-party method to get subscribers from a web form into a Google Sheet<\/b>. In many ways, it\u2019s\u00a0<b>like a paid replacement for the Google Apps Script method<\/b>\u00a0with a few other features built in.<\/p>\n<p>Sheet Monkey is far less expensive than form building tools; the paid plan is $60\/yr.<\/p>\n<p><i>Note: I\u2019ll be using the free plan for this demo. The free plan only allows for 100 form submissions per year and is missing some features. All that is fine for testing purposes; in real-world deployments, you\u2019ll almost certainly need a paid plan if you choose to go this route.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Step 1: Create a form in SheetMonkey\">Step 1: Create a form in Sheet Monkey<\/h3>\n<p>I signed up for a free account by connecting my Google account to Sheet Monkey.
