In either case, make sure <strong>open and\/or click tracking<\/strong>\u00a0are <strong>on<\/strong>. In the <strong>To<\/strong>\u00a0field, you\u2019ll see an email address that includes the words \u201ctrigger template.\u201d The message has some default text in it, giving you a refresher on the instructions.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image1-1.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image1-1.png\" alt=\"Write your triggered email template\" width=\"1742\" height=\"1316\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Delete everything inside that email<\/strong>\u00a0and compose your triggered follow-up message. (Do not delete the email address, though.)<\/p>\n<p>And when you\u2019ve finished, click the GMass button in the triggered email\u2019s compose window to save it to GMass.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image13.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-6\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image13.png\" alt=\"Save the triggered email template using the GMass button\" width=\"1742\" height=\"1316\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<h3 id=\"settings-for-your-ne-lyik\">Settings for your new triggered email<\/h3>\n<p>Now you\u2019ll be back in the compose window for your initial campaign. Go back into the GMass settings and back to the <strong>Advanced \u00a0&gt; Triggers<\/strong>\u00a0section.<\/p>\n<p>Click the  button next to the Opens, Clicks, or Replies dropdown menus to refresh.<\/p>\n<p>Then <strong>select your triggered email<\/strong>\u00a0from the dropdown.<\/p>\n<p><em>(You can also search in the dropdown by typing in a phrase, or by using GMass&#8217;s search filters. In this case, if you search <code>is:template<\/code>, the list will only show you specific triggered emails and auto follow-up templates you&#8217;ve created. Here&#8217;s more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/campaign-templates-in-gmail\/\">searching GMass templates<\/a>.)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image2-1.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-7\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image2-1.png\" alt=\"Refresh and use the template\" width=\"1742\" height=\"1316\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>If you check the box for <strong>Thread with existing conversation<\/strong>, that will send the triggered email in the same thread as your campaign (meaning it won\u2019t get its own subject line). If you have that box unchecked, your triggered email will go out with its own subject line in a separate thread.<\/p>\n<p>You can repeat this process if you\u2019d like to use different triggered messages for opens, clicks, and\/or replies.<\/p>\n<p>You can also <strong id=\"triggerdelays\">send yourself a test email<\/strong> from the top of the settings box and try out the open\/click\/reply triggers when your test messages arrive.<\/p>\n<p>And if you change your mind about using an open, click, or reply trigger, click the\u00a0<strong>Clear<\/strong> link above the dropdown box.<\/p>\n<h3>Add a delay before your triggered messages<\/h3>\n<p>By popular demand, after less than one month of triggered emails going live, we added another feature: Delays.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t want your triggered emails to go out immediately, now <strong>you can set a delay<\/strong> of anywhere from one minute to, well, however many minutes you&#8217;d like.<\/p>\n<p>The delay settings appear under both your open and click trigger. They&#8217;ll fire immediately when you open\/click\/reply your test email, regardless of your specified delay.<\/p>\n<h3>NEW! Triggered messages on replies<\/h3>\n<p>When we launched triggered emails at GMass, initially they only worked when someone opened or clicked an email.<\/p>\n<p>However, after we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/instant-reply-bounce-detection\/\">re-engineered our reply detection system<\/a> to find replies immediately (as opposed to on a delay) \u2014 <strong>that opened the door to triggered emails based on replies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Triggered emails on replies work similar to triggered emails on opens and clicks: You create a template for your triggered email&#8230; choose it from the dropdown menu&#8230; and decide whether or not to thread it and\/or send it with a delay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-10\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified.png\" alt=\"Triggered email that goes out on a reply\" width=\"1408\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified.png 1408w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-300x104.png 300w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-1024x353.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-768x265.png 768w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-24x8.png 24w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-36x12.png 36w, https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/trig-new-onreply-tinified-48x17.png 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1408px) 100vw, 1408px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Replies also have an extra option, though. Will open trigger emails go out on those?<\/h3>\n<p>No. Open triggered emails will <strong>only go out if GMass can confirm the email was opened legitimately<\/strong>. So <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/apple-mail-privacy-protection\/\">Apple\u2019s Mail Privacy Protection<\/a>\u00a0\u201cfake\u201d opens will <strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0fire the open trigger.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"what-if-someone-open-mcdw\">What if someone opens an email more than once? Or clicks or replies more than once?<\/h3>\n<p>The triggered emails will <strong>only go out once per event, per recipient<\/strong>. So even if they open your email 20 times, they\u2019ll only get the open trigger email the first time.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"does-this-work-with-frky\">Does this work with the other GMass email list types, not just Google Sheets?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, triggered emails <strong>work with all the various ways you can put together mailing lists in GMass<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/features\/google-sheets-integration\">Google Sheets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/features\/segmented-campaigns\">segmented campaigns<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/features\/gmail-list-builder\">Gmail search-driven lists<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/email-lists-reuse\/\">reusing prior lists<\/a>, and simply entering email addresses into the To field.<\/p>\n<p>Triggered emails also work if you use GMass\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/multiple-lists-multi-merge\/\">multi-merge feature<\/a>\u00a0to send from multiple Google Sheets or multiple types of lists.<\/p>\n<h3>What GMass plans include triggered emails?<\/h3>\n<p>Premium, Professional, and Team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/pricing\">plans<\/a> all include triggered emails. Triggered emails go out immediately when a recipient takes an action; auto follow-ups go out when a recipient <em>does not<\/em>\u00a0take an action.<\/p>\n<p>And we\u2019ve built triggered emails to work well with your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/auto-follow-up-emails-until-reply\/\">auto follow-up sequences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"triggers-carry-over-mkbw\">Triggers carry over to auto follow-up stages<\/h4>\n<p>When you set triggers on your campaign, those <strong>triggers will all carry over to your auto follow-ups<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So if you have a click trigger in place and someone clicks a link in Stage 2 of your auto follow-up sequence, <em>that\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0when they\u2019ll receive the click triggered email.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026 as I mentioned before, <strong>triggers will only fire once per method, per recipient<\/strong>.
