{"id":24210,"date":"2024-05-21T18:37:26","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T18:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/?p=24210"},"modified":"2026-02-13T19:10:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T19:10:45","slug":"instantly-send-new-rows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/instantly-send-new-rows\/","title":{"rendered":"GMass Can Instantly Detect New Rows in Your Google Sheet and Send Them a Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/recurring-automated-email-campaigns-gmail-sheets\/\">Recurring campaigns<\/a>\u00a0are one of GMass\u2019s most powerful features.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not familiar, GMass can <strong>detect new rows in a Google Sheet<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>automatically send an email campaign to the recipients in those rows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(Go here to learn all about GMass\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/recurring-automated-email-campaigns-gmail-sheets\/\">recurring campaigns<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>With recurring campaigns, you can choose <strong>when<\/strong>\u00a0GMass should automatically send to new rows.<\/p>\n<p>Before May 2024, the options were hour, day, week, and month \u2014 so the quickest option was to send the campaign within 1 hour of adding a new row.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>what if you wanted GMass to send the automated recurring campaign even sooner<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>I put together a workaround once (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/trigger-transactional-email-google-sheet\/\">using the GMass API and transactional emails<\/a>), but that was a pretty technical option and prohibitive for a lot of folks. Connect to your Google Sheet, then create your campaign. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/auto-follow-up-emails-until-reply\/\">auto follow-ups<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/triggered-emails\/\">triggered emails<\/a>\u00a0in your campaign if you\u2019d like as well.<\/p>\n<h3>Choosing the \u201cinstantly\u201d recurrence option in the GMass settings box<\/h3>\n<p>Once your campaign is ready to go, head into the <strong>Schedule<\/strong>\u00a0section of the settings box and look for <strong>Repeat<\/strong>. Just follow these cutting and pasting instructions.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the Google Sheet that\u2019s connected to your campaign. Go to the <strong>Extensions <\/strong>menu and choose <strong>Apps Script<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image7.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image7.png\" alt=\"Choose Apps Script in your Google Sheet\" width=\"1740\" height=\"880\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Replace \u201cUntitled Project\u201d with a name. However, we <em>can<\/em>\u00a0still check your Google Sheet hourly to see whether or not there have been any new additions.<\/p>\n<p>So if you set up an instantly recurring campaign but don\u2019t set up the Google Apps Script, <strong>GMass will still automatically send your campaign to new rows within an hour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The sending just won\u2019t be instant.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"this-sends-instantly-fkna\">This sends instantly\u2026 so how fast do I have to type everything into a new row?<\/h3>\n<p>In my example, I only had an email address and first name in my Google Sheet, so I could type those in pretty fast.<\/p>\n<p>But what if you have lots of different columns in your Google Sheet? Since the Google Apps Script and GMass are detecting new rows <em>instantly<\/em>, <strong>how fast would you have to type to make sure you don\u2019t send out an automation with missing mail merge fields?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The short answer is: You have <strong>about a minute<\/strong>\u00a0to type everything in before GMass sends your email. We built in that short delay.<\/p>\n<p>The longer (and better) answer is: <strong>GMass can\u2019t send your email to a new row until you put an email address in that row.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re adding lots and lots of data to a row, type in the recipient\u2019s email address <strong>last<\/strong>\u00a0and you don\u2019t have to worry about the recurring campaign going out to them before you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"can-i-create-an-inst-etqp\">Can I create an instantly recurring campaign to all rows instead of new rows?<\/h3>\n<p>In the GMass settings box, when you\u2019re setting up a recurring campaign, there\u2019s an option to send to just new rows or to all rows.<\/p>\n<p>However, for instant campaigns, the \u201call\u201d rows doesn\u2019t make sense \u2014 because instant campaigns go out when you add to your Google Sheet.<\/p>\n<p>So if you try to select \u201call\u201d rows, <strong>GMass will reset that dropdown to \u201cnew\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and let you know \u201call\u201d isn\u2019t available for this function.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"can-i-add-more-than-qmxg\">Can I add more than one row at a time for instant sending?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes. You can, say, paste in multiple new rows and each one will get the campaign instantly.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens if I add someone during a time that&#8217;s outside my sending window (e.g., on a holiday or after my campaign&#8217;s daily end time)?<\/h3>\n<p>GMass offers scheduling features that create sending windows. For instance, you may choose not to send campaigns on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/choose-specific-days\/\">certain days of the week<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/skip-holidays\/\">holidays<\/a>; or set a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/set-end-time\/\">daily end time<\/a> for a campaign.<\/p>\n<p>If you add a row to an instantly recurring campaign and it&#8217;s outside of your allowed sending times, GMass will NOT send the message immediately. Rather, it will wait until the next allowed time and send the email then.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"if-i-edit-someone-s-ddgu\">If I edit someone\u2019s information in my Google Sheet, will GMass re-send them the campaign?<\/h3>\n<p>If you edit the <strong>email address<\/strong>\u00a0in a row in your Google Sheet, GMass and the Google Apps Script <em>will<\/em>\u00a0detect that as a new row and send your campaign to that new email address.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you edit any other info in a row but not the email address, GMass will <strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0interpret that as a new row and will not re-send the campaign to that email address.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"i-m-getting-an-error-gfzv\">I\u2019m getting an error when I try to install the Google Apps Script. What\u2019s happening?<\/h3>\n<p>So you followed the instructions in this article and\/or the email you received about instant campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>But when you went to Google Sheets and clicked on Apps Script in the Extensions menu, you got this error:<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image11.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-14\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image11.png\" alt=\"An error screen you might see\" width=\"1872\" height=\"1058\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Which then redirected you here:<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image16.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-15\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image16.png\" alt=\"The other error screen you might see\" width=\"1872\" height=\"1058\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>That happened because of a <strong>bug with Google<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to create a Google Apps Script, <strong>you have to be logged into your primary account in your browser<\/strong>. Otherwise, Google gives you that fatal error.<\/p>\n<p>As you probably know, you can log in to multiple Google accounts in your browser. Usually, the first one you logged in to is designated as the primary account and any others you log into are secondary accounts.<\/p>\n<p>You can always tell which account is primary by the Gmail URL. If the URL says \/u\/0, that\u2019s the primary account.
