Since Gemini works inside Gmail and GMass works inside Gmail<\/strong>, we\u2019re already getting questions from people wondering how these tools work together.<\/p>\n So I tested out everything Gemini can do<\/strong>\u00a0to figure out all the ways Gemini can help with your email campaigns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, right now\u2026 Gemini doesn\u2019t do all that much. It\u2019s underbaked (this isn\u2019t the first time we\u2019ve seen Google underbake a Gmail tool<\/a>, either). I can\u2019t see myself using it much, or regularly.<\/p>\n However, there are already a few ways it can help you with your GMass campaigns.<\/p>\n Plus, we don\u2019t expect Gemini to stay underpowered forever<\/strong>. Google is deeply committed to AI (I mean, they\u2019re willingly murdering their search business for its sake), so Gemini will get a lot of runway before it\u2019s at risk of winding up in the infamous Google graveyard.<\/p>\n So as Gemini grows and gets more features and abilities, we\u2019ll revisit and update this article.<\/p>\n I\u2019m putting this Gemini feature first because after all my testing, I believe this<\/em>\u00a0is the one that will be most helpful to GMass users immediately.<\/p>\n In my test, I asked Gemini how to perform an action in GMass. I didn\u2019t give it a softball either, I asked it to do something that isn\u2019t super easy and would require referencing multiple docs.<\/p>\n Note: I start my prompt with \u201cUse Google Search\u201d \u2014 that\u2019s how you get Gemini to do research.<\/em><\/p>\n And Gemini gave me the answer right there in the Gmail sidebar.<\/p>\n Outside of one extraneous but otherwise harmless step (the part about using \u201cFilter views\u201d in Google Sheets), Gemini nailed this answer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I\u2019m not surprised, as Google\u2019s biggest AI strength thus far across all their tools has been synthesizing complex information. And they synthesized this GMass technique beautifully.<\/p>\n Asking Gemini is a super helpful way to get specific, case-by-case GMass advice<\/strong> while you\u2019re working on your campaign. (Of course, GMass has its own GMass AI answers tool<\/a>, but Gemini’s has the real estate edge by being in the sidebar.)<\/p>\n And if Gemini doesn\u2019t put together its own answer, in my other testing I found it does a good job pointing you to a blog post<\/strong>\u00a0on GMass that should be able to help you out.<\/p>\n Ultimately, composing emails is likely the most common way people will use Gemini in Gmail. (With GMass and beyond.)<\/p>\n Like all generative AI models to date, Gemini writes decent first drafts<\/strong>. It does NOT produce ready-to-send copy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Its output needs<\/em>\u00a0your expertise and polishing, but it\u2019s good for getting you started.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a prompt I fed it for a sample campaign\u2026<\/p>\n And here\u2019s what it returned:<\/p>\n That\u2019s bad cold email copy (starting with \u201cMy name is\u2026\u201d is certainly a choice) so I clicked the \u201cRecreate\u201d button to see if it could do any better. It couldn\u2019t, so I\u2019d need to clean up this draft significantly<\/strong>\u00a0on my own.<\/p>\n I also couldn\u2019t get Gemini to do subject lines<\/strong>\u00a0(it just wants to type the email body) \u2014 even though when I asked Gemini if it could write subject lines, it told me it could.<\/p>\n Based on my results, I\u2019d recommend using GMass\u2019s built-in AI campaign creator<\/a>\u00a0instead of Gemini.<\/p>\n Not only is GMass\u2019s tool better trained on quality email copy<\/strong>, GMass\u2019s version can also automatically set up an entire auto follow-up sequence for you<\/strong>\u00a0(including the settings).<\/p>\n We, as email pros, are usually quite particular about every word in the campaigns we send. We\u2019re less precious with our replies.<\/p>\n With replies, speed and authenticity are generally favored<\/strong>\u00a0over endless revisions.<\/p>\n So perhaps Gemini is more ready for prime time with replies, since that copy will spark less editing.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a response I got to a (sample) email campaign. And I employed Gemini to write a reply. This is my prompt:<\/p>\n And here was the output:<\/p>\n I give this about a 6\/10. I\u2019d definitely<\/em>\u00a0need to fix that line about \u201cthe high pay\u201d \u2014 Gemini didn\u2019t realize how gauche that was to actually say verbatim from my prompt \u2014 but there\u2019s enough to work with here<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Once again, though, Gemini isn\u2019t fully baked yet, so I\u2019d recommend sticking with GMass\u2019s native reply option, <\/strong>The Reply Project<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n With The Reply Project you can use AI to write (better) responses to your campaign\u2019s replies. You can also then edit those responses, save them as reusable templates, and get through a whole bunch of campaign replies in record time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n For now, this Gemini usage is last on my list because, well, it\u2019s AI doing a worse job than Google\u2019s native, non-AI tools.<\/p>\n But for the sake of completeness, I\u2019m including it.<\/p>\n You can use Gemini to run searches in Gmail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The pro:<\/p>\n The cons:<\/p>\n For instance, here\u2019s a search example using Gemini:<\/p>\n I tried this prompt 25 ways and this was the best I could get the results; I would\u2019ve gotten the results I actually<\/em>\u00a0wanted much quicker manually (by searching by label, which Gemini couldn\u2019t do right). Also, again, notice that Gmail doesn\u2019t put the search in the search bar.<\/p>\n Despite the flaws with Gemini-based searches, I can still use GMass\u2019s feature that builds a new email list<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0based on a Gmail search<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I\u2019d recommend sticking with the native Gmail search rather than using Gemini<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In fact, you could ask Gemini how to use search notation in Gmail and get better results.<\/p>\n As you can see, right now, there\u2019s not that<\/em>\u00a0much utility for Gemini with GMass (or Gemini in general).<\/p>\n However, I do think the ability to ask for GMass advice right there in the sidebar is useful<\/strong>.<\/p>\n You may or may not want to use its email or reply writing features. I find GMass\u2019s tools for both work better at this point.<\/p>\n But Gemini will evolve<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 it\u2019s not a side project for Google, it\u2019s a headliner \u2014 and, with that evolution, we should find even more uses for it with GMass.<\/p>\n (Note: There are some other things Gemini can do, like summarizing email threads or setting up events in Google Calendar, which I didn\u2019t include here \u2014 as I didn\u2019t find them especially relevant for the GMass\/Gmail\/Gemini trifecta.)<\/em><\/p>\n In the meantime, if you aren\u2019t a GMass user yet \u2014 let\u2019s get you in on the action.<\/p>\nGemini with GMass: Table of Contents<\/h2>\n
