{"id":25313,"date":"2025-05-08T18:48:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T18:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/?p=25313"},"modified":"2025-05-08T18:48:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T18:48:01","slug":"set-send-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/set-send-order\/","title":{"rendered":"Set Your Sending Order to Control Which Rows GMass Emails First"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can now <strong>set your sending order<\/strong> in GMass \u2014 meaning you <strong>choose the order<\/strong> that GMass goes through the rows of contacts in your Google Sheet to send your campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Before, GMass would go through your Sheet sequentially, starting with row 1 and sending to your contacts in order, until the final row.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you have more control over that process.<\/p>\n<p>In this guide, I\u2019ll show you <strong>how to set your sending order<\/strong>. I\u2019ll also go over some of the <strong>reasons why you might want to set a sending order<\/strong>\u00a0for deliverability, consistency, better A\/B test results, and more.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h.tc252uu9fx77\">How to Set Your Sending Order in GMass<\/h2>\n<p>You set your sending order in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/dashboard-guide\/\">GMass dashboard<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the <strong>gear icon<\/strong>\u00a0to open the <strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0panel. Then click into the <strong>Sending<\/strong>\u00a0section.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/setorder-sending.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/setorder-sending.png\" alt=\"Go to the Sending section of the GMass dashboard settings\" width=\"1999\" height=\"1229\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>You can now choose your sending order from the dropdown.<\/p>\n<p>Your options are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Default<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; GMass\u2019s standard method, going through your Google Sheet\u2019s rows in numerical order.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Randomize<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Random order.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reversed<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; From the last row in the Sheet sequentially up to the first.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alphabetical<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Alphabetical order by email address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/setorder-chooseorder.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/setorder-chooseorder.png\" alt=\"Choose your sending order\" width=\"1999\" height=\"1229\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Note: Because this option is in the GMass dashboard, it\u2019s an <strong>account-level setting<\/strong>. That means <strong>whatever you choose here will apply to all campaigns you send going forward<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to change this for an individual campaign, you\u2019ll need to come back to the dashboard to do so; there\u2019s no single campaign override in the settings box.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h.lb11w7kx21f7\">Why You Might Want to Set a Sending Order<\/h2>\n<p>There are plenty of reasons why you might want to change up the send order.<\/p>\n<p>Here are four big ones.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.jommmouqryv2\">Large campaign distribution<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re sending to the same list regularly, and it\u2019s a large list that\u2019s exceeding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/features\/gmail-limit-handling\">Gmail\u2019s daily sending limit<\/a>, it may be (1) broken up across multiple days or (2) sent via SMTP once you hit the limit.<\/p>\n<p>If your campaigns are broken up across multiple days, that means <strong>the same people are likely always getting your emails days later than others<\/strong>. Randomizing or reversing will change that up.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, if you add new contacts to your Sheet and reverse the order, now <strong>those excited new recipients will get your emails first, not last<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/send-unlimited-emails-gmail-using-smtp\/\">using SMTP<\/a>\u00a0to handle overages and send virtually unlimited emails, that means that (largely) the same groups are receiving the campaign through Gmail\u2019s servers and through SMTP.<\/p>\n<p>Randomizing or reversing could help add some variety to both, which has <strong>potential deliverability benefits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.iohqxsj1luzh\">Fair A\/B testing<\/h3>\n<p>If you use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/ab-test\/\">A\/B testing<\/a>, GMass sends your variations to percentages of your list \u2014 then sends the winning variation to the remainder.<\/p>\n<p>Varying up the sending order will <strong>ensure different recipients in your A\/B test groups<\/strong>\u00a0for different campaigns, which should mean more accurate (or, at least, more diversified) results.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.hxe6usp5rijr\">Better list blending<\/h3>\n<p>Maybe you\u2019re pulling together multiple groups of recipients into your Google Sheet for a campaign. For instance, you have a list of engaged customers and a list of lapsed customers.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026 if all the engaged customers get the email first, your numbers will look high. Then if all the lapsed customers get it, the numbers will plummet \u2014 plus, <strong>you\u2019re risking days of high spam report numbers<\/strong>.
