(The more fields, the more people who quit filling out the form before they\u2019re done.)<\/li>\n<li>Requiring log in makes sure people give you a <strong>real, valid email address<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Requiring log in <strong>eliminates the risk of typos<\/strong>\u00a0in email addresses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>However, if you have a lot of respondents who aren\u2019t using Google accounts, then maybe this isn\u2019t the best route.<\/p>\n<p>To automatically collect emails, in your Google Form, click on the <strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0tab, then click on the <strong>Responses<\/strong>\u00a0section. Then, in the <strong>Collect email addresses<\/strong>\u00a0field, choose <strong>Verified<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-verifiedemail.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-verifiedemail.png\" alt=\"Automatically collect email addresses in your Google Form\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1486\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Beyond email addresses, you can put pretty much anything you want to collect in your Google Form.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"test-your-google-for-towx\">Test your Google Form with your own email (for two reasons)<\/h3>\n<p>After you publish your Google Form\u2026<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-publishform.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-publishform.png\" alt=\"Publish your Google Form\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1320\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>\u2026you should <em>always<\/em>\u00a0<strong>try it out before you share it with other people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The first reason is, of course, you want to <strong>make sure the form flows smoothly<\/strong>\u00a0and all your fields are showing up correctly.<\/p>\n<p>But the second reason? We\u2019re thinking ahead to the automated email campaign we\u2019re going to build based off this form, and <strong id=\"step-2-connecting-yo-scsn\">you need a \u201cstarter\u201d respondent in order to set it up<\/strong>. You should be that first recipient.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2: Connecting Your Form to Google Sheets<\/h2>\n<p>Now that your form is ready, let\u2019s get all the responses feeding automatically into a Google Sheet.<\/p>\n<p>In Google Forms, go to the <strong>Responses<\/strong>\u00a0tab. Then click the <strong>Link to Sheets<\/strong>\u00a0link in the top right.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-linktosheet.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-linktosheet.png\" alt=\"Link your form to Google Sheets\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1230\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Choose <strong>Create a New Spreadsheet<\/strong>. You can use the default name (the title of your form) or give your Google Sheet a more concise name. (In my example, I\u2019ve given it a better name.)<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-createsheet.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-3\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-createsheet.png\" alt=\"Create the new spreadsheet\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1230\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<h3 id=\"rename-the-columns-i-vyrt\">Rename the columns in your Google Sheet<\/h3>\n<p>After you create the Google Sheet, it will open automatically in a new tab.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll see one response in there (the one you did earlier as a test). You\u2019ll also see column headers in row 1 based on the wording of your form questions.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-initialsheet.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-4\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-initialsheet.png\" alt=\"Look at the Google Sheet that's generated\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1118\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/gmail-mail-merge\">Gmail mail merge<\/a>, <strong>your column headers in row 1 become your merge tags<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And as it stands, the column headers that Google Forms generated aren\u2019t great for mail merge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/format-google-sheet\/\">Mail merge best practices<\/a>\u00a0are to use <strong>column headers without spaces or special characters<\/strong>; your questions will probably have both.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s ok. <strong>You can actually change the text of those column headers and it won\u2019t affect how Google Forms feeds data into the Google Sheet<\/strong>. (However, avoid rearranging the order of the columns or deleting one.)<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-editedheaders.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-editedheaders.png\" alt=\"Change the headers on your Google Sheet\" width=\"2000\" height=\"804\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>As you can see in my example, I renamed the column headers to be much more merge-friendly options.<\/p>\n<p>And now, <strong id=\"part-3-creating-your-zvxt\">we\u2019re already ready to set up your automated emails<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Part 3: Creating Your Email Response Template in GMass<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019re going to <strong>use GMass for Gmail mail merges<\/strong>\u00a0here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GMass is a mail merge and mass email tool that works <\/strong><em><strong>inside<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0Gmail<\/strong>. It\u2019s also perfect for Google Forms mail merges.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"install-the-gmass-ch-ppdi\">Install the GMass Chrome extension<\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have GMass, you can <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/gmass-powerful-mail-merge\/ehomdgjhgmbidokdgicgmdiedadncbgf\">grab it from Google\u2019s Chrome Web Store<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s <strong>free to try<\/strong>\u00a0with <strong>no credit card required<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Just install it from the <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/gmass-powerful-mail-merge\/ehomdgjhgmbidokdgicgmdiedadncbgf\">Chrome Web Store<\/a>, give it the necessary permissions, and it\u2019s good to go.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"connect-your-google-dcyr\">Connect your Google Sheet of form responses to a new GMass campaign<\/h3>\n<p>As you\u2019ll see, GMass has added a few buttons to the Gmail interface.<\/p>\n<p>Click the spreadsheet one next to the search bar.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-connectsheet.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-6\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-connectsheet.png\" alt=\"Connect to your Google Sheet\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1200\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Pick your Google Sheet from the dropdown menu. (It could be hourly, daily, every few days, weekly \u2014 or even instantly.)<\/p>\n<p>For our Google Form respondents, we\u2019re going to set up an email to go out to them within an hour of their submission.<\/p>\n<p>(I\u2019m choosing that option because sending instant emails requires an extra step. Since you\u2019re new to GMass and automation, I wanted to keep this simpler. However, if you\u2019re interested in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/instantly-send-new-rows\/\">automatically sending out instant emails to Google Form respondents<\/a>, here\u2019s a full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/workflows\/sequence-google-form\">walkthrough<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"use-the-repeat-featu-lshm\">Use the Repeat feature in the GMass settings box<\/h3>\n<p>In the GMass settings box for your campaign, go to the <strong>Schedule<\/strong>\u00a0section.<\/p>\n<p>Click the check box next to <strong>Repeat<\/strong>. Then choose to repeat every <strong>1 Hour<\/strong>\u00a0to <strong>new<\/strong>\u00a0rows.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-recurrence.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-12\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmass.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/googleformsmailmerge-recurrence.png\" alt=\"Set up the automation to check for new rows hourly\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1140\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>That means: Every hour, GMass will check your Google Sheet for new rows (in other words, new form respondents).
